Hypericum ( Hypericum perforatum L. ) is a medicinal plant also known as St. John's wort.

St. John's wort

Hypericum contains a substance called hypericin , which is the active substance in this plant. The mechanism of action of this substance is not yet known exactly, but it seems that it intervenes with serotonin, a neurotransmitter that participates in emotional balance.

Hypericum is used to treat mild depression and also in states of anxiety and irritability .

Hypericum, contraindications

Hypericum is totally contraindicated in case of pregnancy or lactation.
