Kale is a plant of the cabbage and broccoli family (the crucifers) that has characteristic green curly leaves and usually reaches between 30 and 40 cm in height. Kale Westlandse Herfst, like all crucifers, is a very nitrogen demanding crop. You will need a continuous supply of organic matter from 8 weeks after transplantation. The trick is to harvest the kale leaves when they are young, as then they are less fibrous and have a milder flavor. Kale is low in calories, diuretic and has a high percentage of minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Only the outer leaves of the plant should be harvested, leaving the growing point intact. This encourages its growth and favors the creation of new leaves that you can harvest.
