Properties and benefits of Artichoke

The artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) is characterized by its content in cynarin and malic acid. Both components are found in the artichoke leaf which is the part of the plant that is used. Due to the presence of cinnarin, the artichoke increases the production of bile and in turn also produces increased urine output. All this makes it an interesting plant as an adjunct in weight control diets.
