Description
Magnesium carbonate acts as a local antacid in the stomach, by neutralizing hydrochloric acid. Its effects are slow but prolonged and, as it is not a very strong alkaloid, there is no risk of alkalosis. It also does not hinder proteolytic digestion.
Properties and benefits of Magnesium carbonate
In sufficient quantities it acts by osmosis as a mild laxative in the intestine. It usually takes effect between four and twelve hours after ingestion, and does not cause colic or irritation. Likewise, magnesium has great benefits for the bones, since it regulates the absorption and assimilation of calcium by suppressing the action of parathyroid hormone; it also activates an enzyme necessary to form new bone.
