The free form of the amino acid l-lysine is designed to play a primary role in protein synthesis, it is one of the constituent elements of all proteins, as well as in cognitive care, the immune system and gastrointestinal function. Monolaurin, known as glycerol monolaurate (GML), is a monoester formed from glycerol and lauric acid. Lauric acid is a 12-carbon medium chain saturated fatty acid. The richest dietary source of GML is coconut oil, but it is also found in breast milk and to a lesser extent in palm oil.
